The Chicago (IL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, established in 1950 as the first chapter in the city, is dedicated to fostering friendship and service within the community. Our members are committed to addressing key issues through impactful programs in areas such as health, youth services, the arts, and more. A signature initiative, Links2Hope, focuses on raising mental health awareness within the African-American community, aiming to reduce stigma and provide critical resources. With a strong legacy of service and leadership, the Chicago Chapter continues to make a lasting impact through advocacy, empowerment, and collaboration.

As President, it is my honor to welcome you on behalf of our chapter—one rooted in friendship, service, leadership, and a deep commitment to uplifting communities of African descent.

Chartered in 1950, the Chicago (IL) Chapter holds a proud and historic place within The Links, Incorporated. We are one of the oldest chapters in the nation and the oldest chapter in the state of Illinois. For more than seven decades, our members have worked with purpose and passion to serve, support, and strengthen our communities.

Our programming is guided by the five facets of The Links, Incorporated: Services to Youth, The Arts, National Trends and Services, International Trends and Services, and Health and Human Services. Through these facets, we create meaningful programs, build impactful partnerships, and address the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

We are also proud, in conjunction with our Chapter's Foundation, to have granted well over one million dollars to deserving organizations whose missions align with our commitment to service, equity, and community advancement.

The highly anticipated 63rd Annual Debutante Cotillion, presented by the Chicago Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, is just days away.

A cherished tradition since 1961, the Chicago Cotillion has long held a distinguished place on the city’s social calendar—celebrating excellence, leadership, and legacy. This year’s theme, “Elegant Jewels,” reflects the brilliance and promise of our Debutantes.

On Saturday, May 2nd, families, escorts, and community members will gather to witness this beautiful rite of passage. Dressed in stunning ball gowns and tuxedos, our young leaders will take their bows, honoring their hard work, dedication, and bright futures ahead.

For 63 years, we have proudly presented some of Chicago’s most accomplished African American youth—celebrating not only who they are today, but the impact they are destined to make. In this video, Illinois Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton, a member of the Chicago Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, offers reflections on the significance of the Cotillion, captured during remarks at a past celebration.

The Chicago (IL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated is excited to present the “Man Cave — Beyond Stereotypes: Building a Legacy of Strength and Care”, a two-part series at our 2026 Mental Health & Wellness Symposium & Black Family Wellness Expo! This unique offering invites participants to reflect, grow, and strengthen their roles within their families and communities.

✨ Challenging Media Narratives that Degrade Women: This session is designed for Black Men and Teen Boys, focusing on building media awareness. Participants will examine how music, film, advertising, and social media often promote narratives that degrade and objectify women. Through guided discussions, attendees will develop critical thinking skills to understand how media shapes attitudes, relationships, and behavior.

✨ Self-Care as Service to Family and Community: This session is exclusively for Black Men, shifting the focus inward to explore self-care as a vital responsibility rather than a weakness. Spending time with your good girlfriends is not only good for the soul, but it also significantly boosts mental health and overall well-being by:

- Reducing stress and anxiety (socializing lowers stress hormones like cortisol and releases those feel-good endorphins)

- Combating loneliness

- Increasing happiness and life satisfaction (shared experiences are linked to greater fulfillment)

- Improving self-esteem (being valued by friends reminds you just how fabulous you are, just as you are — uniquely you)

- Promoting healthier habits (there’s nothing like an accountability partner for exercise and nutrition)

- Offering emotional support (life is going to “life,” and the empathy, understanding, and love of friends help to process the challenging seasons)

As Black women, we are often the foundation—holding families, communities, and organizations together with strength, grace, and resilience. We pour into others effortlessly, answering the call to serve, support, and uplift. Yet in doing so, we can forget that we, too, are worthy of care, rest, and intentional nourishment.

This mental health moment is a reminder that pouring into yourself is not selfish—it is necessary. Your well-being matters. Your joy matters. Your rest matters. Taking time to pause, breathe, and check in with yourself is an act of self-respect and preservation, especially in a world that so often expects Black women to be endlessly strong.

When we choose to care for our mental and emotional health, we are better equipped to show up as our most whole, authentic selves. Let this be your permission to refill your cup—through rest, boundaries, reflection, and joy—so that your light can continue to shine, not from depletion, but from abundance.

Healing doesn’t always start with words—sometimes it begins with creativity! 🎨 Coined in 1942 by British artist Adrian Hill, art therapy uses the creative process to help people of all ages work through trauma, stress, and emotional challenges. When words fall short, art can step in. . . but let go of trying to create meaning from your work and embrace abstract art. This beginner-friendly art therapy work is the perfect place to start—no fancy supplies needed, just a pen, paper, and your inner Alma Thomas.

Alma Woodsey Thomas (September 22, 1891 – February 24, 1978) was an Black American artist and art teacher who lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and is now recognized as a major American painter of the 20th century. She is the first Black woman to be included in the White House’s permanent art collection.
